Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin

It’s the type of script you inquire about future plans for publication because you need to share it with your son, arming your seed. It’s the type of play you call your mama about late at night, talking at length on the couch because you’ve become restless and inspired (and she knows that feeling all too well). It’s the type of song you pray hard for it traveling as far as sonically possible, because we’d all be better having listened.

Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin cannot be missed. It is currently being housed at the La Jolla Playhouse through Oct. 4. SoCal residents if able, I urge you to support this magnum opus by playwright, Michael Benjamin Washington, who also shines in the leading role, resurrecting Bayard Rustin… a beyond brilliant African American civil rights strategist, activist and leader whose name we should all be proud to know and speak. Blueprints to Freedom beautifully opens a portal to 1963 America, focusing on Bayard Rustin’s role in orchestrating the historic March on Washington amidst personal and political turmoil. Washington’s faithful performance, along with that of the entire cast, combined with the extraordinary set transformations.. I’m 99% sure supernatural forces were involved..  left my husband and I astounded.  Tickets are still available. Get you some. Click here. Direction by Lucie Tiberghien
