My Top 5 Holiday Joints

My friend Josh Tehee over at the Fresno Bee put together a list of his Top Five Christmas Songs. It inspired me to do the same. Now I’m not the biggest fan of holiday sounds, but ‘tis the season and all that jazz. Or soul in my particular case ( as much of my list is soul based). Feel free to school me on some joints I might be missin out on though. It’s how we learn!

1. Merry Christmas Baby: Otis Redding / I think I found this one in the clearance bin at Tower Records when I was in high school. It stuck with me, because it’s gritty and sweet and Otis has a way of making you feel that in your bones.

2. This Christmas: Donny Hathaway /This beautiful song met me as a young adult. It’s sincerity and warmth make me feel all cozy. I can’t be sure, but I think I heard The Whispers version first though.

charlie3. Christmas Time Is Here: Vince Guaraldi Trio / Everything Vince Guaraldi related seems to remind me of watching The Peanuts Christmas special every year with the fam. I’m so nostalgic it ain’t even funny.

4. Let It Snow- Boys ll Men /I got my reasons. That’s all I’ll say about that.
