Last Thursday was my first night out, since A Tribe Called sOLStarr* birthed a beautiful celestial baby boy, we’ve named Zulu (meaning “sky” or “heaven”). I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how on earth my heart could be filled with so much love.
After 2 months of trading coos and smiles with my beaming son, along with heavy insistence from my better half, that I “get back out in the world”. . . I bought a ticket to see the Robert Glasper Experiment at the El Rey Theatre in L.A. with my dear friend, Stephanie. Our late night trek in search of Black Radio 2 was worth every mile!
The Experiment was in spectacular form, with solos that both reminded and informed us that jazz was at the heart of it all. Oh, and those surprise appearances from Dwele and the legendary Bill Withers left us soaring. And thanks to the happy black guy standing to my right, I can share this magic moment with y’all. – Starr*, Happy Black Girl
