Whenever I talk about Georgia Anne Muldrow I forget that I don’t actually know her personally. That probably has something to do with her voice. It’s warm and vibrant and doesn’t waste time with false build ups or bouts of trying to win you over with theatrics. It’s natural, It’s refined and most of all it invites you to listen, to get to know her, no matter the moment. Before you have time to realize it, you hooked. The joy you so often seek has been actualized through song. This my loves, is how you get got.

It’s for all those reasons and more that Georgia is this weeks Get To Know An HBG pick. Born in Los Angeles to musical parents Ronald Muldrow ( Jazz Guitarist ) and Rickie Byars-Beckwith  ( musical director of Agape Spiritual Center) it comes as no surprise that she’s not only a gifted vocalist but also an accomplished musician, writer, producer and beat maker.

Her discography includes solo projects such as Worthnothings & Kings Ballad alongside collaborative efforts with artists like Dudley Perkins ( her husband and label mate) Yasiin Bey, J*Davey and SA-RA. Her sound has been likened to everything from funk to jazz to hip hop and the love spaces in between. Honestly though, you just have to experience it yourself & take it from there.

If I had to recommend a good starting place I’d suggest picking up Early (a collection of songs written when she was between the ages 17-19) then inch your way forward. Take your time though, cause she’s a force. Wait…make  that an amazing force, that we think you need to know. Enjoy~ devoya

NEVER A DAY IN VAIN

My prayer is to be better
to live a life of love
an honest human being
who’s light heart can soar with the doves
it’s hard to keep your head up
when life’s smoke obscures your gaze
I pray to see the beauty
even in that smokes dark haze

And when i feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up to me.
I’m a wide open vessel,
true love expressin’,
I’ll never live a day in vain
And when i feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up to me.
I’m a wide open vessel,
true love expressin’,
I’ll never live a day in vain

Holy is my Mother
she anoints my head with soil
I walk upon her bounty
as the world’s roads shall uncoil
precious be my father
i stand warm in his ray
his sonnet is the sunrise
his gift to us is day

And when i feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up to me.
I’m a wide open vessel,
true love expressin’,
I’ll never live a day in vain
And when i feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up to me.
I’m a wide open vessel,
true love expressin’,
I’ll never live a day in vain

feeling bad is natural
to love the sun we must know rain
just don’t let it infect you
wash it out before it stains
there’s so much to support you
the water, earth and air
this life is such a privilege
give thanks because it’s there.

And when we feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up for we.
We’re wide open vessels
true love expressin’,
we’ll never live a day in vain
And when we feel worthy to receive,
the universe opens up for we.

Day in vain…
